Reno Home Prices Continue to Rise in 2012


RENO, Nev. (Jan. 3, 2013) – The median price of a home in the Reno-Sparks area rose seven percent to $165,000 last year, according to a year-end report released by Lake Tahoe/Reno-based real estate company Chase International.


The report, released earlier this week compares sales from 2012 to those of 2011 and shows steady increases in price and sales in the Reno-Sparks and Carson Valley areas. The average price of a home in Reno-Sparks is up six percent to $202,346. Sales volume was up eight percent and units sold climbed two percent.


“We’ve continued to see steady growth in the Reno/Sparks area, and we expect prices to continue upward as inventory is low in all price ranges,” said Sue Lowe, corporate vice president for Chase International.


Sparks saw the biggest gain in home prices – with a ten percent jump in median home price ($160,000) and a nine percent rise in average price ($174,012), though Reno showed larger improvement in sales with an eight percent rise in volume and a four percent increase in units sold. Sparks saw a seven percent rise in volume and a two percent dip in units sold.


Sales were very strong in Carson Valley, where there was a 19 percent leap in sales volume and an 18 percent jump in units sold. The median price of a home in Carson Valley is $195,000 (up three percent) and the average price is $244,996 (up one percent).
