History

Like many towns, the railroad sparked this town’s establishment in the early 1900s. Sparks originally served as a switching yard. Railroad officials offered their employees the opportunity to buy lots for $1 each next to the new railroad roundhouse, giving birth to the new town. It was named for John Sparks, who was the state’s governor at the time.
