A true hometown, with a lively downtown, Sparks offers an eclectic mix of old fashioned fun with a progressive future. Known as the "City of Promise", Sparks is the area’s largest multicultural community with its vast influence coming from the local Basque, Spanish and Latino population.
The Lifestyle: There may not be another city that came to life in quite the unique way Sparks did. It's a tailor-made town, custom ordered by the Southern Pacific Railway Company. In 1902, there was nothing but marshland and ranches four miles east of Reno. Over one hundred years later, the City of Sparks has over 80,000 residents and continues to grow with thriving businesses in its family centered community. Sparks has a true "historic, home town" environment that was recognized by the White House in 2006 as the First “Preserve America” Community in Nevada. Sparks continues to use the funds acquired through this program to enhance its planning and educational efforts associated with the protection and appropriate use of its historical properties.
Neighborhood Features: The City of Sparks is located in the Truckee Meadows of Northern Nevada and is Nevada’s fifth largest city. Sparks is in a high desert climate at an elevation of nearly 4,500 feet with four full seasons and sunshine almost 80% of the year. With a strong business core, established and new residential neighborhoods, a brand new Marina, and a revitalized downtown corridor, it is not a surprise that the Sparks Chamber of Commerce is the fastest growing Chamber in the West.
Hot Spot: Victorian Ave itself is considered a historic business district that draws over 100,000 visitors every year. It is the proud home to the popular Victorian farmer's market, the Nugget's Best in the West Rib Cook Off, Cinco De Mayo, and the Sparks Hometown Christmas Parade. Just to the East of this historic district is the brand new Sparks Marina that offers year-round recreation, dining, shopping and residential opportunities.
Best Homes: Numerous home developers have recently called Sparks their new home, and with good reason. From Sparks to Spanish Springs, you’ll find a wide western sky filled with endless options for every taste. One of the larger developers Kiley Ranch is building more than homes; they are building a "sense of place where work, shop, life and play all take stage under the same wide sky".
